Mardi Gras Carnival
Mardi Gras is one the world’s most widely celebrated holidays, so what are you waiting for? This Mardi Gras, make sure you have an amazing Carnival celebration! Mardi Gras, otherwise known as Fat Tuesday, is the final day of Carnival and is traditionally the last day of revelry and indulgence before Lent begins. Some cities celebrate Mardi Gras and Carnival in particularly spectacular fashion. If you want the best Mardi Gras possible, you should probably make your way to New Orleans. These days, however, almost every city in America celebrates Mardi Gras and Carnival with parades, parties, and decorations.
Carnival parades are always an amazing sight. There are the king and queen of Mardi Gras, the brightly colored beads and costumes, elaborate masks, and flashing flame-torch displays. Make sure you get dressed up in the traditional Mardi Gras colors of green, purple, and gold before you leave the house! Then you can feast on some delicious king cake, the braided pastry that is traditional at this time of year. It’s common to bake a small plastic baby doll into king cakes and if you get the baby, it’s good luck. As you watch the parade, you’ll see people on the floats throwing beads and coins into the crowd below. Try to catch them so you can decorate your outfit even more extravagantly! Mardi Gras celebrations can get a little wild in some cities so prepare for drinking, dancing, and noise. However, most cities will have child-friendly festivities too if you’re celebrating Carnival with family.
If parades and parties aren’t your thing, you can also celebrate Mardi Gras as Pancake Day. It’s traditional to eat pancakes on Mardi Gras and many towns will have pancake cookouts. This is a great way to celebrate Mardi Gras if you’ve got kids who might not enjoy the hustle and bustle of the Carnival parades. Chow down on pancakes with your favorite toppings or try some unconventional mix-ins like avocado, pickles, or peanut butter.
