Page Volume

Every website has a sitemap. The format is often found like this domain.com/sitemap.xml. Go to the website’s sitemap and identify the number of pages of the website. Mark this number on the sheet provided. If there is no sitemap found, check the box on the sheet accordingly.

Signs there is no sitemap include:

  • /sitemap.xml redirects to the homepage
  • /sitemap.xml shows a 404 Page Not Found error
  • /sitemap.xml shows a blank white screen

Note: Sometimes, you will see a list of other sitemaps. If this is the case, click through to the one that says ‘page_sitemap.xml’

# Results on Google

Open Google in a new tab and search ‘site:[DOMAIN.COM]’ and press enter. Copy and paste the number into the sheet provided.

CMS

Select from the drop down which Content Management System is being used. Here is how you find out.

  1. Go to the website > Right Click > View Page Source
  2. Find in page (Ctrl+F) any of the following. If you find any of the following, it is an indication this is the CMS being used:
    • “wp-themes” = WordPress
    • “squarespace” = Squarespace
    • “wix” = Wix
    • “weebly” = Weebly
    • “joomla” = Joomla
  3. Select in the drop down which CMS is found. If none of the options come up, enter Other and mark your best guess. If you don’t know, say ‘Don’t Know’ or leave blank.

In this section, mark Found or Not Found if you have discovered them being utilized ont he website:

Google Analytics

  1. Go to the website > Right Click > View Page Source
  2. Find in page (Ctrl+F) ‘UA-‘ (include the hyphen).
  3. If you get a result with UA-XXXXX’, then mark FOUND on the sheet. If you do not see it, mark NOT FOUND.

Google Search Console

  1. Go to the website > Right Click > View Page Source
  2. Find in page (Ctrl+F) ‘site-verification’.
  3. If you get a result, then mark FOUND on the sheet. If you do not see it, mark NOT FOUND.

SSL Certificate

  1. Go to the website > Notice the HTTPS in the Address bar.
  2. If you see it, then mark FOUND on the sheet. If you do not see it, mark NOT FOUND.

Website Accessibility

  1. Go to the website
  2. Look for an accessibility icon on the corners or sides of the screen
  3. Look for an Accessibility statement or page on the footer.
  4. If you see either, then mark FOUND on the sheet. If you do not see either, mark NOT FOUND.

Mobile Friendly

  1. Go to the website
  2. Drag the browser window width smaller so as to mirror a mobile width.
  3. If that doesn’t work, Right Click > Inspect Element > Click the Mobile Icon > Select the iPhone or Android mobile device
  4. If you see the design change so it is clear on mobile, mark FOUND on the sheet. If the site does not change, the page cuts off, or the website zooms out, mark NOT FOUND.

Ecommerce

  1. Go to the website
  2. Identify if it’s an E-commerce store
    • Does it have a shopping cart in the navigation menu?
    • Does it show featured products or ‘Add to Cart’ buttons?
    • Do you see the words ‘Free Shipping’?
  3. If yes to any of the above, mark FOUND on the sheet. If the site is not an E-commerce store, mark NOT FOUND.
