Domain Name System (DNS)
DNS stands for Domain Name System. It is a hierarchical naming system used to translate human-readable domain names, such as www.example.com, into machine-readable IP addresses, such as 192.0.2.1.
When a user types a domain name into their web browser, the browser sends a request to a DNS resolver to look up the IP address associated with that domain name. The resolver then sends requests to various DNS servers, working its way up the hierarchy, until it finds the authoritative DNS server for the domain. The authoritative server then responds with the IP address associated with the domain, and the resolver returns that IP address to the user’s browser, allowing the browser to connect to the website.
DNS is a critical part of the internet infrastructure, as it enables users to easily navigate the internet using human-readable domain names, rather than having to remember complex IP addresses.
