Website Terminology Glossary
Bandwidth
Bandwidth refers to the amount of data that can be transferred between a website or application and its users over an internet connection in a given amount of time, usually measured in bits per second (bps), kilobits per second (kbps), or megabits per second (Mbps).
In simpler terms, bandwidth is the capacity of the internet connection that allows a website or application to send and receive data to and from its users. It determines how quickly the website or application can load and how smoothly it can function.
For example, a website with a lot of images, videos, and other multimedia content will require more bandwidth to load quickly and smoothly, compared to a website with just text and simple graphics.
Bandwidth is often provided by web hosting companies and internet service providers (ISPs) and is typically sold as a part of their service packages. Some hosting and ISP plans offer unlimited bandwidth, while others have a set limit, and additional fees may be charged if that limit is exceeded.
